Misty Mountain Hop

Couldn't resist taking a shot of the mountains this morning, with their mantle of clouds. They now have a sprinkling of snow courtesy of our recent storm over the weekend. Now, aside from some clouds around the mountains, it's blue skies and clear sailing through the rest of the Thanksgiving week. Yippee!!

Camellia in bud

My pink debutante camellia has several buds on it, but this one is about ready to burst forth into bloom. It's early November, and I'm a bit surprised it would start blooming now. But our weather has been so weird, the plant my be confused. I know I sure am, LOL!

Fall Color

One of the down sides to living in So. CA is the lack of true "Fall Color" that one can experience in the midwest and the east. However, that's not to say we don't get any at all. Even on a very small scale, I get a wee bit of fall color when my caryopteris (spirea) begins it's dormancy period. The leaves change color, then drop, and the whole thing becomes gray twigs until spring cloaks it in greenery again. My buddy, Marty the praying mantis has gone. He lived in the caryopteris during most of the summer, keeping aphids to a minimum in my small garden. For that, I was extremely grateful. I hope he comes back next year.

California Holly

Took a drive up to Oak Glen to get some "Fall Color" pictures. I believe this is a California Holly, growing by an old abandoned building along Oak Glen Road. Very pretty with all its bright red berries.
