Tibouchina urvilleana

Otherwise known as princess flower. I just love this plant. It has soft velvety green leaves and brilliant purple flowers. It's planted in the cooler section of my perennial bed where it gets afternoon shade, as it can't stand up to the blast furnace heat/sun of the Inland Empire.

Physostegia virginiana

Otherwise known as obedient plant or false dragonhead. The flowers are a lovely lavender pink and resemble snapdragons. I couldn't find it locally so I ordered a couple of plants from an online plant catalog. They looked nearly dead when they arrived and the first year put up only one bloom spike. But that was enough! I had 6 or 7 more plants the following year, as they readily self-seed, though I don't consider them invasive. They bloom from the bottom up.

Plumbago unfurled

Thought this was an interesting shot. It's kinda cool the way the individual flowers will become unfurled.

More Pink!

There's the one with the symmetrical pink striations..

And then there is the first completely solid colored Four o'clock blossom I've seen yet.

Mary Rose (David Austin)

Just had to get a picture of this one, this morning. Too gorgeous to pass up. Such a lovely, delicate scent too.

Yep, more 4 o'clocks

I just can't seem to help myself. They're so pretty. Look at that one with nearly solid pink on half the flower! And so highly perfumed, especially at night.

Hyacinth Bean Flowers!

Oooh, they're just starting to open. I am thrilled! These got started so late from seed, and it's really hot now. But luckily, these are in my small rose bed, so they get afternoon shade.

Rose Trio

A lovely trio of the different roses I grow here. On the left is Yves Piaget, in the center is Ebb Tide and on the right is Mary Rose. They're all floribundas and have bloomed from early spring throughout the summer, off and on. They'll likely continue until it gets really cold, maybe Dec. or Jan. Oh, and there's a little buddleia bloom in the back I threw in for contrast.

I have eggplants!

Isn't it lovely? Isn't it wonderful (cue Stevie Wonder). I've got two of them, and here's a close up of the bigger of the two. Sorry, forget what variety this is, but it should be quite pretty when full grown!

Spotted Dotted Four O'Clock

Never ceases to amaze me how different each blossom can look from another. Here's another iteration. Just fascinating.
