Little Vision Purple Astilbe

This is a dwarf variety I have growing in a pot on my balcony. Having problems with leaf miners, so really need to keep an eye on the plants.

Minnesota Garden

Welp, I have moved back to Minnesota with my corgi Stella and am meeting the new challenges for gardening in Zone 4. I am in an apartment with only a north facing balcony. That limits my plant choices quite a bit, but there is still much beauty to be found in the shade...

Still Life...

Stella The Fluff's new tag bag and a 4 o'clock blossom. Love the fact that these amazingly perfumed blooms stay open almost all night!

Veg O' The Day

The orange bell peppers decided to all ripen at the exact same moment, so I picked a bunch along with some roma tomatoes.

Happy Earth Day 2015!

Here's a little Earth Day bouquet I put together from my garden this morning. There's one Yves Piaget French romantica, two Mary Rose English Roses, a couple of little species geraniums and Santa Barbara daisies.

First Tulip of 2015

Of course, I only bought and planted pink and purple tulips so I don't know how this got here, but I suspect my corgi had something to do with it...

First Rose of 2015

Here it is, a newly opened flower on Twilight Zone, a grandiflora out of Ebb Tide (which I've also got growing in my garden).

Only in California!

This is why I live in California and NOT Minnesota (where I spent 25 yrs.). Two lovely Yves Piaget roses blooming in December (12/07/14). Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Black Knight Buddleia

Damn thing is something like 12 ft. high now. This bloom was from one of the lower branches, well over my head, so probably about 6 ft. off the ground.

What grows in the garden so fair...

Pretty much everything is blooming now. I'm really happy that the caryopteris that I transplanted last fall survived and are now happily blooming. I'm getting a little frightened of the massive buddleia (not pictured) that is threatening to take over Yucaipa. Stella The Fluff, resident corgi, is afraid of nothing, including the black lab mix that now seems to live next door.

Three new roses planted!

I picked up three new rose bushes at Cherry Valley Nursery today:  Moonstone (hybrid tea), Silver Star (grandiflora), and Twilight Zone (grandiflora). Got them all planted late this afternoon, as the sun began to set and it was a little cooler. Here are pictures I found on the internet of what they should look like. Not sure if I'll have any blooms ready by the flower show coming towards the end of April, but hope springs eternal!

About time for a new post!

Planted tulips, hyacinths and grape hyacinths in my round raised beds a few weeks ago, and they're coming up! Beautiful purples, blues and pinks. Can't wait for the tulips. They're all "late blooming" so, they're a bit slow to show up.

Pink and White

My little mini pink hibiscus is blooming already, and has a cloud of Santa Barbara daisies at its feet...

First apple blossoms!

These just opened on my Fuji ultra dwarf apple tree. It's about 6 ft. tall now, growing in a large container on my back patio.

Hummingbird Moth

Had an interesting visitor to the garden tonight when I was out at dusk watering. Very cool! Have heard of these things before, but had never seen one in person before.
